classical music makes you smarter February 6, 2009
People who know me might would say that I can be kind of dingy sometimes. One of many examples to give you a laugh is when I was in high school I took Taxidermy, thinking , it would teach me to do people’s taxes and the first day of school I walked into class and there were stuffed animals everywhere. I still didn’t get it. I thought it was just a really weird math teacher. It wasn’t until he started to teach us the bones in the hand that I realized this was not what I thought.
I pretty much take what people say seriously. I would consider myself a smart person but for some reason I just have these moments where I just don’t get it.
I remember in the 80’s I saw a study on classical versus rock in high school students and testing. The students who listened to the classical music before a test did better.
I have always liked classical music along with all other music but now I have decided to put it in my rotation.
I’ve been doing this for afew months now and Michael says I am definitely smarter.hahahaha!
Classical music is beautiful in melody and is very soothing and mind opening.
Everyone should try it. you might like it.
puff the magic dragon October 28, 2008
o.k Beth this is for you. Beth has never heard puff the magic dragon and my dad use to sing this song to me all the time when i was a little girl. it would always make me cry because I felt so sorry for puff. it was also made into a cartoon that would come on once a year when i was a child. it is a great cartoon and i would recommend it to anyone. enjoy !
Cash October 9, 2008
I went to the pumpkin farm with Molly’s class yesterday and they were blaring Johnny Cash over the outdoor speakers and I thought it was hilarious. While little children were playing and feeding goats and picking out pumpkins in this farm wonderland, they were hearing, ” I shot a man in Reno. Just to watch him die.” It was really weird. but what was even weirder was standing under one of the speakers was a boy who couldn’t have been older then 8, whom I didn’t know, said to me and Molly as we past him, ” Did you know this was the last song he wrote before he died?” (not this song another one). Cash is popular with all ages I guess. Just a strange day.
I found this video on you tube and it is from 1974 recorded in the Tennessee State Penitentiary’s gymnasium. The inmates are the audience. check it out.

The Tony Rice Unit- Blue Railroad Train
the question was asked on my last post, “what does bluegrass sound like?”. here is your answer. being from where I am I didn’t think that there are parts of the world that haven’t heard bluegrass. Michael could answer a lot of questions about it because he just finished reading “The history of Bluegrass”. Maybe he will do a blog post about it and add some you tube video. For now I can tell you that it’s origin is the Kentucky mountains but you will find it all over the eastern side of America. i think it is classified as “mountain music”. The songs are usually about religion, work, love and life. The instruments consist of guitar, mandolin, banjo, upright base, fiddle, and maybe harp. It is happy and blues. very easy to dance too. Bill Monroe, I think, really helped to make it popular but it has been around for a long time.
if anyone could add some more info that would be great.
Michael, if I am wrong with any info, please correct me.
