Molly’s been praying again September 7, 2008

Michael and I have been joking that the reason why we are in a drought is because our 8 year old daughter Molly is so afraid of a storm that she keeps praying that there will not be any.

We told her that she needed to stop doing that and at least pray for rain. So she has started to do that, but last week when she found out about Hanna she almost went crazy thinking about it. I told her that hurricanes are good for cooling of the earth and helps prevent global warming. They might be destructive to humans sometimes but they are good for the earth.

Well, I think she snuck one in because we didn’t get anything out of this storm. No

downed trees ( I have a dead one in my yard and I wanted God to take it out.), no blackouts, no rain(just a sprinkle) and just a little sweet breeze. My husband had to go to work.

Now don’t get me wrong. I don’t want bad stuff to happen but yes I like exciting weather and I get bummed when i am promised exciting weather and don’t get it.

look at my yard. just a few tiny limbs.

just enough rain and wind to keep poor little Adele( our 6 year old neighbor and friend) in the house.

to be afraid or not to be afraid September 1, 2008

growing up on the coast I am use to hurricanes. it was always exciting for a kid because we got out of school early. the police would close all the bridges to the islands. my dad would board up the windows and we would go to the hospital to spend the night or my parents would move our beds away from windows ( depending on how severe it was going to be. then when it was over we would go out and count the trees that had fallen. everyone was always busy getting ready and during the storm my family had to stay together for hours. It was really neat.

now that I live a little further inland, it is scarier. Inland you have tornado’s and flooding to worry about. I was never afraid of a hurricane until I moved away from the coast. it was Fran that changed my view and then Floyd topped it off. People evacuate the coast for a storm but really we should be going either further inland (like Tennessee) or going toward the coast. think about it, straight line winds or tornado’s, drainage or flooding. which would you rather have.

now we have Hannah to maybe start thinking about. I say we go to the beach. No really, I know we have to stay and protect our property but it is something to think about.

when will you start stocking up? will you wait to the last minute or do you already have your hurricane kit together? me and Michael are last minute preparers.

don’t forget your flashlights, batteries, bread, water, and (last but not least )peanut butter.
I was just looking at this map and thinking,” Wow, it is really beautiful in color.”
